MPAC will be sending all property owners notices showing their assessed value as of January 1st, 2016 and this value will be used to determine the 4-year phased-in assessment values – starting with the 2017 taxation year. As always if you do not agree with the assessment to be used in 2017 you can submit a challenge but now there are new timelines based on where your property is located.
* NEW * For the 2016 tax year, your deadline to file a RfR will depend on the date you receive your property assessment notice. The previous deadline (March 31 of each year) NO LONGER APPLIES.
The expected issue date for properties in Central Frontenac is Monday May 9th, 2016. This means that if you wish to challenge your assessment the Request for Reconsideration (RfR) deadline is Tuesday, September 6th, 2016. A complete list of Assessment Notice release dates across Ontario and the associated RfR deadlines are available on the FOCA website (https://foca.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/2 ... -dates.pdf).
FOCA was pleased to have senior representatives from MPAC (the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation) at the FOCA Spring Seminar on March 5th. MPAC spoke about the new property assessments which are rolling out over the next few months, regional trends in waterfront assessments, and changes coming to the "Request for Reconsideration" (RfR) process for property owners wishing to challenge their assessments. If you wish to review the presentation slides from the FOCA Spring session they are attached to this posting.
