Attention: Mayor Janet Gutowski

Dear Mayor:

The purpose of this letter begins with congratulations from the Executive of the Sharbot Lake Property Owners’ Association regarding your election to the position of Mayor of Central Frontenac on November 13. We had very positive feedback from your participation at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) last July. We dare to think that your participation at our AGM helped with your campaign.

The purpose of this letter is two fold.

First, we would like to invite you to come again to the next AGM. The Meeting will be July 21, 2007 at the Oso Town Hall, as before, and will run from 10:00 am to noon. Our feature presentation will be a report by the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority on their findings regarding Sharbot Lake water quality (five-year review). If you are able to attend, however, we would call on you at the very start of the Meeting so that we consume as little of your time as possible. As before, you would be welcome to stay for as long as you are able.

If you are able to attend the July 2007 AGM we would set aside about 15 minutes for you to highlight your short term plans for economic development in Central Frontenac (further to your last presentation); we would allow no more than 10 minutes for questions. These are early times yet! You would need to block the period from 10:00 am to 10:30 am on that Saturday morning.

The second purpose of this letter is to affirm that our Association remains very concerned about the disposal of hazardous waste by our members: after all, “A Concern for Property and Environment” is our motto. We have proposed a number of ways in which to stimulate “correct” behaviour in this regard, ranging from a special CF event (like the two South Frontenac one-day collections last summer) to a simple “user-friendly” information sheet made available at area dumps (with map for getting to the Kingston site!). Within this broad range we have included the idea of a “free hazardous waste” ticket every other year or so, to supplement or replace the ticket that has recently been included with our tax statements for one-time large loads.

We would like to learn from you what the Municipal Government is prepared to consider. Additionally, at the AGM if you can attend, you could report on the intentions (or success) of the Municipal Government’s approach. The SLPOA has offered before, and we do so again, to prepare the “user friendly” flyer just described and to make copies available to the Council for consideration and reproduction. This option, of course, is at the low end of the range of possibilities. Our preferred option would be to have a temporary (one day or weekend) local depot similar to South Frontenac.

I look forward to hearing from you, at the address that is provided below.

Sincerely,

Rem Westland President,
